Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions businesses and homeowners in Melbourne ask when looking for building inspection services.

Is a pre-sale inspection different from a pre-purchase inspection? +
Fundamentally, no. We inspect the property with the same procedure, covering all areas and reporting all defects to the same consistent standard. The wording in some sections of the report is adjusted to suit the sale process, but the inspection itself doesn't differ.
How do I book, and what’s your cancellation policy? +
You can book an Inspect East Building Inspections inspection by calling us on (03) 8657 0007, or submit a request through our online booking form. If you need to cancel or reschedule, we ask for at least 24 hours' notice.
When will I receive my inspection report? +
Your report is emailed to you on the same day as the inspection. Your inspector will also talk you through the findings verbally once you've read the major summary section, which sits at the front of the report right after the index, so you won't miss it.
Can I get a hard copy of my report, and what payment methods do you accept? +
Yes, you can request a hard copy of your inspection report at no extra charge. Just email us and let us know the address you’d like it posted to. For payment, we accept major credit cards (VISA, Mastercard) as well as bank transfer.
How long does a building inspection take? +
A typical inspection of an average three-bedroom, two-bathroom home takes around 2 hours, though this can vary depending on the condition of the property.
Can I be present during the inspection? +
Of course. If you'd like to be there, we completely understand. We just ask that we're not distracted during the process itself, since that can lead to missed items. We're happy to walk through any questions you have once the inspection is complete.
What if I have questions about my report afterwards? +
Give us a call any time. We'll make sure you're comfortable with everything in your report before you make a decision.
Do I need an inspection even if the home is brand new? +
Yes, an inspection is always recommended before purchasing a home, old or new. Just because a home is new doesn’t mean everything is fine. Defects left unrectified during the build can deteriorate quickly once you move in.
